It was exactly 9 PM when we saw a
man wearing green T-Shirt enter the hotel. He neither sat down nor talked to
anyone. Even the few people present inside the hotel, including the owner, did
not speak to him. Within the next two minutes, we saw him holding the container
and a small bag, probably holding the rotis,
turn away from the hotel and walk towards the other end of the village towards
the house we had targeted.
We had already collected our
food, in similar way, daal in a
container and roti rolled into a bag.
And since we had gained that extra time before anyone from that group would
come to collect the food, we had utilized this time in finding a perfect spot
for hiding ourselves from where we could easily and safely keep an eye on the
hotel entrance and also could watch the main road that led to the other end of
the village where that house was.
Once we had got that place, we
had wasted no time and had quickly mixed the morphine into the daal making sure it did not change the
taste and odor of the daal. I even
dipped my finger and slurped in a little of the daal just to be certain of that. Even though I was sure that the
drug would not be lethal to the life; a little intake from myself confirmed me
more than I already was. But now the only worry I had was – the quantity was enough only to turn ten
people unconscious and here we had twenty of them. But this was one chance
that had to be taken and we had decided to take this risk and go ahead with
this uncertainty.
As we saw him walk away from the
hotel, we kept waiting till he was at a certain distance from the hotel from
where he wouldn’t get a clear view of the hotel nor would think of walking back
to it. Also he wouldn’t have much help from any of the street lights. Darkness
and the distance from the hotel would give him lesser options and he wouldn’t
be on his guard ready to tackle anything that would hit him suddenly. Moreover,
being nearer to his house would not take him off guard. He was walking slowly
but steadily and by the way he walked, it was very much clear that he had no
suspicions or there was anything that needed some special attention. It seems
that the group had based in this village since months and were ascertained that
they had nothing to worry about and no one to fear from and they were under no
radar. It had become a routine life for them.
He reached a point where we had
more benefit. The light was on our side giving him a bit of darkness and the
distance from the hotel was also fair enough that he wouldn’t think of going
back to the hotel or risk picking up something else back to his group. With one
glance at Praveen, I nodded at him and stood up. He nodded back and asked, “Are
you ready to do this?”
“Yes, at any cost” I replied
back.
“All the best. I will be watching
over from here. Just raise your hand or drop this container if you want to
alarm me and I will be there. I will have my gun ready.”
“Thanks. Hopefully there shouldn’t
be any need for that” I said and walked over to the person holding the
container in my hand.
As I neared him, I noticed the
person whom I was going to approach was atleast half foot taller than me and a
lot weightier. His body stretched in all directions making him look like a giant
from behind. If we had to combat then
pretty sure he would have an upper hand, but still I had a backup.
With a hundred thoughts running
around my brain, I finally approached him and with a distance of two steps I
called, “Sir”
What would happen next?
