Children!!!

“A child’s smile is like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day” – Anonymous

How true the saying is. When we see any kid smiling, it instantly strikes a chord within our hearts and we end up smiling too. If, in case, the muscles in our face are rigid enough to resist a smile, they at least loosen up a bit allowing a calmness flow across our face!

Whatever the tension is that is bothering us, how much ever stress we are in and whatever mood we are dealing with; a quick glance at a child’s innocent face filled with pure joy and sweet smile topped up with those cute twinkling eyes, we feel a hint of heaven touching our souls. We feel happy seeing children happy; no doubt their smiles have the power to defeat our tensions and worries. Even in midst of our worst worries if we go and play or even share a moment or even watch a small kid enjoying his/her game (which will be completely out of our scope) we feel peace within ourselves.

  •     Fully tired in office when we get back and a child comes running into our arms, the stress just vaporizes away!
  •     A bad mood and a terrible headache? One quick glance at a kid’s smile and the mood switches instantly!
  •         Feeling down with the whole world sitting on your head? Spending few minutes and caring for a child and receiving a whole hearted acknowledgement and an incomparable love back we feel the most awesome person alive!
  •       Never smiled or laughed since weeks? Sharing a moment with a kid making him/her happy and watching him/her enjoy the moment we end up smiling childishly.
  •      Mind messed up with all kinds of unsolvable thoughts? One moment spent with a child sharing his/her joy in that silly meaningless game and we feel peace at heart.
  •       Feel like bursting with anger or falling down with sorrow? A mild noise of a child’s giggle acts soothing music to our soul.

May be that is why the Russian philosopher, Fyodor Dostoevsky, quoted – “The soul is healed by being with children!”

It is always said – “Children are human form of God and we can see God in each child”.
And yes it is very much true. In this world filled with hatred, tension, stress, anger, ego and lust that has turned it into a large mint driving it away from humanity towards a less livable place; it is children who are free from all these worthless emotions. With a pure conscience and an uncontaminated soul and a vision that can surpass any wise man they reflect the true form of humanity leaving aside all the ill. They are the purest form of love. They love unconditionally, they hug with utmost care, their eyes know no boundaries and their mind knows no partiality. And this is exactly what God is! They are nothing but God’s constant examples of showing us what we grown up and matured living beings should be!

There is an Irish saying – “Bricks and mortar make a house, but the laughter of children make a home”

How beautifully it is said that children are the most real and most valuable part of every home. What a home is which doesn’t echo with the laughter’s, yells, and cries of children? Their innocent laughter’s, silly games, hungry cries, joyous yells, painful screams, active runs and funs, tired voices, endless requests and many other countless things are the ones that make up the most of our precious memories and give a meaning to a home.

And thus an unknown saying goes – “The most precious jewels you will ever have around your neck are the arms of your children”

Not only this, take a moment and dig deep within your heart and you would agree with me when I say, “How I wish if my childhood was a little longer and if only I could get it back”

It’s true! Childhood is the most beautiful season of our life! And children are the most beautiful creations of God!

Every child is a unique flower and the world is a garden! Let’s nurture it!

This is to Vihaan and Sriharsha and all the cute little children spreading happiness and kindness through their innocent eyes and sweet smiles and true love…

Titter pitter titter pitter
One step there, one step here,
You keep running everywhere
And my heart just follows you, I swear!

Those cute little eyes, bright as Sun
Keep twinkling, full of fun!
But your cries, loud as sirens
Does nothing, but frightens!

A minute silent and a minute violent
You are ever active and vibrant!
Always in a hurry, but that’s no worry
Coz under your naughtiness, my tensions I do bury.

Hehe haha hoho and huhu
Ah your laughter; my stress just flew!
And your lovely smile, a healing touch to my heart,
Keeps spreading happiness with an unknown art!

HAPPY CHILDREN'S DAY TO ALL THE CUTE CHILDREN AND THEIR PARENTS!

Diya in Deepavali… Her Eyes…!

I was shaken from my confusion by that loud yell and before I could react or even realize the source of that yell, I heard another yell and this time it was clear. Pranav was yelling loudly and calling my name.

Turning towards his gate I saw him standing across the road and calling me while Pooja still stood beside the gate holding another sparkler. He signaled me an invitation to join him with the crackers. A sudden smile flashed across my face thinking of the opportunity of celebrating Deepavali with those kids and their beautiful cousin. My heart was already jumping and dancing at the golden opportunity that I had landed into. Consoling my heart to have some control over itself and pleading it to behave properly in front of a beautiful girl, I walked, decently, towards their gate.

“Please help us in lighting crackers. We got crackers this time but Dad said I can only crack them if either he or you will be around and help me,” Pranav said as soon as I walked to him.

Pulling the sleeve of my shirt, he continued, “Please don’t say no. Dad is already busy with guests. I really want to light crackers this time. Please dada.”

Just then Pooja ran to me and said, “Happy Deepavali dada”

“Happy Deepavali Pooja” I said, smiling at her.

“Come on dada let’s celebrate Deepavali” she said.

“Yes yes come on dada. Let’s light crackers. I can’t wait” Pranav added, still holding my sleeve.

“Yeah yeah I will help you light the crackers but quickly run in and get permission from uncle again”

“Okay. Just wait for two minutes” Pranav said and sprang inside his house.

As my eyes followed him, they quickly caught a glimpse of the most beautiful girl. She was still standing at the same position. I was too careful or too afraid to look directly at her thinking that would only give her wrong impression on me. Instead, I turned to Pooja and asked, “So what did you do today?”

“We had been to temple and I ate lot of sweets today and you know what dada, I lighted sparklers and then…”

Before she could continue Pranav was out on the pathway running towards me and yelled loudly, “I got permission now come on lets light the crackers. First this one,” he said holding a small cracker in his hand.

“Pranav sloooow. Be careful”

That was first time I heard her voice. It was as soft and as melodious as I had expected and for a second my heart forced me to turn at her and steal a look at her.

“Slow Pranav. Don’t run in between the Diyas and the first rule of lighting crackers is you ought to be extra careful” I said.

“Okay dada” he said.

“I will get Agarbatti” Pooja said and walked inside the gate.

Within seconds Pooja was back holding a lighted Agarbatti and she carefully handed it over to me.

Holding that Agarbatti I turned to Pranav and said, “I will light this one. Carefully observe me. Later I will allow you to light one. Okay?”

“Okay. Yippee” he said pumping fiercely in air.

Making sure they were safe near the gate, I took few steps away from the gate and looked for the right place to keep the cracker. Upon finding one, I placed the cracker on the road in front of their gate, a bit far from gate; I lighted it from the Agarbatti and walked back to the gate. Just when I walked to the gate and turned towards the cracker, it exploded with a loud noise and a small sparkle of fire. A cloud of smoke then rose from it and dispersed into the air.

Just after the noise died down, I heard Pranav’s scream of joy. When I turned at him, I could see happiness filled in his eyes. He was smiling, screaming, clapping, and jumping. It seemed one little cracker blew away all the limits of his happiness. And same was the case with Pooja. Her cute smile had widened clearly saying that she was as happy as her brother. For a second I felt awesome at bringing smiles on the faces of two sweet little kids. I wondered if this was the real happiness of celebrating the festival.

Pranav sprang again inside the gate to bring another cracker and this time called his cousin to join us. I turned back and saw him holding her hand and requesting her to join us. Though I could not clearly see her face as she stood facing towards Pranav on the other side I could clearly tell that she was declining his request.

“Come na Diya didi. It’s so much fun” Pooja shouted as she ran towards her cousin and Pranav.

“Wait! Diya? Did she just say Diya? And since evening I was thinking if she is as beautiful as God himself has lighted thousands of Diyas and now her name is really Diya? Or did I hear it wrong?” I asked my heart, which was as clueless as me and had frozen silent.

While I kept thinking blankly about her name, Pranav and Pooja had already persuaded her in joining us in cracking the crackers and I could hear their joyous cries as they ran to me.

Though I had trained my heart and had told it multiple times to behave in such times, as it does, it again slipped out of my control and forced me turn to take a look at Diya and what a splendid scene it was!

There were Diyas lit on both the sides of the pathway from the porch to the gate and amidst those Diyas, Diya herself, carrying multiple Diyas on her saree, walked slowly towards me. With small and silent steps as she approached the gate, it felt like some angel was walking down the earth towards me. What an elegant and majestic walk it was!

As she walked closer, I could see her face and I bet it was the prettiest face I had ever seen. A moment before my heart had frozen and now it seemed that it had seized to exist. Her cute round face with small pink lips between chubby cheeks was gracefully decorated by a small nose on it. To add to that beauty, she had left her hair loose that were flowing freely in the air celebrating their own Deepavali.

And then something twinkled. Two Diyas twinkled amidst hundreds of other Diyas and what powerful they were! A voltage ran through my body as I looked at those two Diyas… her eyes!

Her eyes twinkled brightly overpowering all the other Diyas lighted in my vision as she had neared me and stood right in front of me and smiled. I was being bowled over by the glow in her eyes when her smile joined the attack. Two cute pink lips widening slightly, creating small dimples on either side in between the chubby cheeks.

Wow! She had the perfect smile that crowned her beauty!

“Now this one” Pranav pulled my arm.

He not only pulled my arm but pulled me out of my dream in which I had lost my heart to that angel! Diya! What an adorable Diya she was! Diya in Deepavali!

With all sorts of romantic thoughts circling my mind, I blurted an okay and took the cracker from him and walked away.

As I placed the cracker and bent down to light it, I tried to be extra careful with my sixth sense sweating at the thought of two twinkling eyes of the prettiest girl I had ever seen, watching my actions. As I lighted the cracker I quickly walked back near the gate where the three of them were standing and staring at the cracker.

There was a still a moment left for the cracker to burst and I took that moment to turn and look at Diya.  She was standing at the farthest end with Pranav and Pooja between us and was staring at the cracker with her eyes blinking randomly and twinkling in between the blinks. She had put her hand over her ears trying to cover them and tried to close her eyes too. The way she behaved made her look cuter and her fear of the cracker brought out the childishness in her. I could see her eyes finally close and her face frown a bit as I heard a loud burst of the cracker.

When, after a moment, the noise of the cracker had died down and Pranav and Pooja were yelling at the top of their voices, I turned back at them and slowly at her. She had brought down her hands and had just opened her eyes and was looking at me. As soon as I looked at her, she blinked once and then blushed and quickly looked down and then turned towards Pooja.

I was damn sure that she had smiled just before she looked down and her eyes twinkled before they blinked!

“We will light the big cracker now” Pranav said.

“No lets light that parachute one” Pooja said.

As the kids argued on the next cracker to be lighted, I again looked at Diya and she too turned at me.

Our eyes met! And our sights got locked! And we both smiled!

No matter what cracker the kids had decided to light next but there were already a number of random crackers cracking, sparkling, and bursting in my heart!

What a lovely Deepavali it was and what a beautiful Diya was glowing in that Deepavali!

Diya in Deepavali… Two, Ten, Twenty, Fifty, and Hundreds…!

I then turned back to take a look at the Tulsi plant when something else caught my eyes.

I saw the neighbors in the opposite house placing the Diyas on their porch and the walkway to their door and among them was one of the prettiest girls I had ever seen in my life! She was as beautiful as a freshly bloomed rose and had caught my eyes just like a rose does in a garden. In her red saree with a golden border and designs of small golden Diyas spread all over her saree she was looking gorgeous. Each of the golden Diya neatly designed on her red saree was sparkling as brightly as the Diyas she was holding in her hands and walking, slowly and carefully, towards their gate. She placed a Diya on the farther end of the gate and then turned towards our end and it was then that she smiled widely looking at the Diya she was about to place on the gate pole.

I felt an electric shock run through my body when I realized that it was her smile that mesmerized me and not hundreds of Diyas lit! I guess my heart had even skipped a heartbeat as it too stood still shocked by that magical smile.

“What happened?” Mom said, while I was still lost in her smile.

“Nothing Mom” I blurted.

“Then come, let’s keep the other Diyas. We have to go the temple” Mom said.

“Ah yes Mom. Yes,” I said and turned to look at Mom. When I saw she had got a hint of what I was up to, I added, “I was just checking if we also need to place more Diyas and decorate the gate and pathway just like they have done”

“If you want clean up more Diyas and do all the work. But first lets go to the temple,” Mom said as she walked into the house.

I could not control myself and quickly turned back and I saw her hair neatly flow out freely in the air as she walked back towards the house while the golden Diyas designed on her red saree shined with the same beauty.

“Wow! Was it truly her smile or had God lighted hundreds of Diyas together?” I said to myself.

“What has happened to you? Quickly help me or at least move out of the way,” Mom said again as she walked out of the door holding two Diyas.

“Nothing Mom,” I said and stepped into the house. When I came back out I saw Mom taking a look at the opposite house making me realize that she had smelled the smoke and I was under scrutiny now!

I have always felt that Moms are better than our ACP Pradyuman when it comes to such cases of their sons and daughters! They can smell what’s cooking with the faintest clue and can follow the clue without any hurdles to unearth the secret. And I bet they won’t sleep until they dig out the secret, once they smell it.

I remained cautious and controlled my heart as I helped place the remaining Diyas and even kept telling my heart not to allow me to turn around at the opposite house. It was difficult but at the end I achieved it. Then I got freshened up and walked into my room drying up my face with a napkin. As I stood in front of my closet, taking a look at the neatly piled shirts, I thought again about the girl who had just stolen my heart.

“Are there any prisons for the beautiful thieves who steal our heart?” I asked myself.

I then selected the best shirt I had in my closet because it was Deepavali. And yes I accept, to be true, deep in the corner of my heart I thought of going in front of her and wanted to look my best. Getting into my clothes and spraying an extra shot of deo, I was ready just when she flashed again across my mind.

“Dear God, is it the best smile that you have carved until now? Was that even a smile or hundreds of Diyas lit together?” I asked, turning towards the God’s photo placed on my table.

“Don’t be late to the temple,” I heard a voice suddenly that shook me off my dreams.

“What?” I asked, looking at the photo, surprised if God had spoken himself.

“Why are you taking so much time? We are starting now. Don’t be late to the temple,” I heard Dad saying.

“Oh how silly of me. It was Dad’s voice” I said to myself and shouted back, “Coming Dad”

It was after an hour when we returned back from the temple that I had to slow down as the kids from the opposite house were playing with sparklers in front of their gate. As I slowed down, happily, looking at them enjoy the sparkles coming out from the sparklers they were holding with a buzzing sound of “sur surrr sur” while they moved their hand randomly drawing an imaginary shape in the dark. Both, Pranav and Pooja were jumping with delight as they held the sparklers.

When the sparklers finished, they ran into the gate and I rode ahead and entered our gate, crossing them. Parking my bike, as I walked back towards our door I quickly stole a moment to look at their house again to see if I could get a glimpse of her again and yes, I was blessed. She stood right beside the porch where the kids were getting ready to light up another set of sparklers. She stood beside them, helping them with lighting those sparklers. Once the sparklers were lit, she carefully handed it over to Pooja with her magical smile. As Pooja ran towards the gate holding the sparklers in her hands, Pranav waited for his turn. She then lit two more sparklers, all the while smiling, and handed them carefully to him. Thrilled with the sparkles, Pranav punched into air and took those sparklers from her hand and turned back to run towards the gate.

As Pranav ran towards the gate, she too turned towards the gate to look at them and folded her hands, smiling at them. For a second I was confused if I need to look at those beguiled kids enjoying the Deepavali sparklers or to look at her splendid beauty.

Two Diyas on their gate, ten on the pathway, twenty on the porch, fifty on her magnificent saree, and wait… hundreds of Diyas in her smile! Those sparklers were no match to her and her smile!

Another step and I would be in front of our door and then I had to walk inside and miss that mesmerizing scene. And again how embarrassing it would be to keep staring at a neighboring girl while standing right at your door to be caught, again, by Mom, anytime.

I was in deep confusion just when I heard a loud yell…

Diya in Deepavali…!

“What are you doing? Its festival today” Mom said, for the third time since morning.

I had spread myself comfortably on the couch holding the remote and pressing the only button that’s really useful on it, the one to surf the channels.

“Watching TV and waiting for breakfast” I replied back, without taking my eyes off the TV screen.

“Its festival, don’t just lie down. It’s a bad sign to sleep during this hour of the day” she said.

With all the resistance I got up and sat upright but kept my eyes glued onto the TV screen. After all, it was a long vacation we had got from our college and I was not going to miss any chance of activating the laziest part of myself and enjoy the vacation to the fullest along with all the sweets and crackers and some cricket with friends.

“Do you need to watch TV this early in the morning?” she said after a while during which she had probably waited for me to switch off the TV.

“Mom, it’s a holiday. Let me enjoy it. I will watch until breakfast then switch it off. I woke up so early today for the Pooja. Now I will only enjoy the day with sweets and sweets and sweets and some rest” I said.

“Its festival today and you are lying on the couch since morning, even after your bath. Help your Dad in tying the Torana. Or better help me with these garlands.”

“What garlands?” I turned quickly and saw two fresh garlands she had just prepared with the jasmine flowers from our garden.

“These two need to be hung on those photos” she said pointing to the large photos of Lord Venkateshwara and Lord Ganapti.

“Okay Mom, shoot me with all the work today” I said, switching off the TV and getting up from the couch.

“Its festival and you should be all active in doing these kinds of auspicious works. It is a part of festival and this is how you really should celebrate a festival. Not only you celebrate the festival fully but you will also get the pleasure of doing such activities during festivals.”

“Yeah Mom I know. These are all simple yet sweet ways of serving God” I said picking up a garland.

“Then why are you whining to hang the garlands? You just want to lie down all day on that couch”

“No Mom. I was just waiting for you to finish preparing the garlands”

“Leave it. Don’t give reasons now. Just finish that quickly and then come for breakfast and call Dad as well”

“Wow! Now that is the work which you should be calling me for. I have been waiting to taste those yummy Laddus since yesterday! I just love festivals!” I said as I walked towards the photo.

The call for breakfast acted like a trigger on me as I quickly did the work I was handed over and once done with it, I walked outside, to the porch where Dad was busy preparing the Torana and helped him too, surprisingly. And then, hanging them onto both the doors I ran into the kitchen for breakfast.

Munching the numerous sweets and snacks Mom had prepared for Deepavali, I was already in heaven! The festival had already started with a holiday, early morning Pooja, and other festival related tasks and the whole environment had already turned pious giving that special zeal for celebrating the festivals. But it was the sweets that completed the feel of festival.

“Where are your friends?” Dad asked.

“One has gone to his Uncle’s home for the festival. Other two are here” I said, my mouth still filled with the large bite of Laddu.

“You haven’t got crackers this time?” he asked.

I was still chewing and my mouth was full. After a moment when the large bite of the deliciously sweet Laddu was completely chewed into pieces and had already started melting in my mouth, the tongue got busy savoring the sweetness while my tummy waited hungrily. I knew my tongue wouldn’t allow me to gulp down until it savors to its fullest and I just nodded a NO to my Dad instead of keeping him waiting for my answer.

“Are your friends coming over here in the evening for crackers or will you be going to their place?” he asked again.

This time I had swallowed down the Laddu and my mouth was free but my hand had already grabbed another snack and my teeth were waiting to dig deep into that. Before my mouth got busy again, I replied, “No Dad, we haven’t yet decided anything. Most probably we will not be firing any crackers this time”

“Why?”

“One of them is not here, the other one said they have relatives visiting their home so he will be busy with his cousins this time. It’s only me and Shashi left and we haven’t yet planned. Also, it’s so boring without the group” I replied and quickly put in the snack into my mouth and got busy again.

“Okay then let’s go to the temple in the evening” he said.

“Great” I said as I took in another bite; and then suddenly realized that I had confused my Dad and Mom if my appreciation was for the snack or for the idea of visiting the temple.

It was exactly 6 PM when I had finished writing up the boring project report and walked out of my room when I saw Mom preparing the Diyas. My eyes suddenly brightened and my mood freshened up at the sight of Diyas. Finally the time had come for the real moment of Deepavali – lighting the Diyas and decorating the house with a number of them!

The festival of lights is here!” I said to myself, of course with a smile!

It’s so true that the auspicious Diyas not only lighten up the house but also enlighten our moods and our inner self. We feel so fresh and happy seeing those small burning lights. Not only an auspicious feeling blooms in our mind and body but those small lights also do excite us in celebrating the festival more grandly.

I was so thrilled by the sight of those Diyas that the boring work I had just done in writing up two pages for a project vanished away and the zeal of celebrating the festival replaced it. Quickly running in and freshening up myself, I came back and sat along with Mom and started helping her in pouring the oil after she placed the cotton wick in each of the Diyas. After that was done, she carefully lighted them up one after another while I kept staring at the first lit Diya with the same excitement that I had during my childhood days.

“Let’s carry two each and place them on the porch. One near the Tulsi plant and others on the porch” she said.

“Okay Mom” I said standing up and picking up two Diyas.

We walked out and I placed the two Diyas just outside on both the sides of the front door while Mom walked towards the Tulsi plant. As I placed the Diyas I took two steps back and took a quick look at the door and my excitement just doubled with my work appeasing myself.

I then turned back to take a look at the Tulsi plant when something else caught my eyes.

Its October…!

A week had passed since commence of the tenth month of the year, October. Normally known for a bunch of holidays and festivals, it brings in lots of celebrations, enjoyments, gatherings, and also slowly but noticeably it brings in a hint of winter while the frequency of rains decrease. As the rains slowdown leaving their footprints as potholes and clear skies and with sudden surprised downpour during evenings, the temperature drops down accompanied with regular cool breezes and chilly nights. Even few mornings seem chilly if we wake up early and dare to get out of the cozy blanket and step out of the bed. A perfect post-monsoon month!

It feels the right time for a cup of hot tea, be it morning or evening! And how heavenly it feels by that relief from the continuous downpour that got us stuck inside the house, for months, to get some fresh air with a cup of hot tea, accompanied with lots of spicy pakoras, in that weather which is neither too hot and perspiring as the summers nor harshly chilled like the months of December and January!

It was during those days in that second week of the month when he got up from his bed a bit early only to find out that it was another holiday and he could have got himself some more sleep. But once out of his bed, he rather decided to start his day and plan something. Quickly getting himself through a rigorous activity of getting fresh, he prepared a cup of hot tea for himself and walked to the window beside his bed. The cool breeze filled up the whole room freshening it within seconds as he opened the window pane. He felt fresh as he smelled the fresh air from the window and took a sip of the tea. With his first glance at the sky he smiled when it showed no signs of rain. It seemed as though the black monsoon clouds had gone for a stroll to the neighboring city. It was sunny but the effect of Sun had been minimized by the few silver clouds spread randomly across the sky.

The second sip of the tea widened his smile while he seemed to get lost in some unknown world as he closed his eyes for a moment. The cool breeze kept blowing on his face while the hot steam filled his nostrils with the aroma of tea. He felt proud for he could prepare such good tea.

Slowly he pulled a chair and seated himself beside the window, but he felt that odd as he had never done it in all the four long years that he had been staying in that house. All those years he had either spent those lovely mornings lying lazily in his bed scrolling the Facebook page in his mobile or hurrying through his daily activities only to make sure that he reached office before his manager. With that thought he suddenly remembered that he hadn’t checked his mobile since he had opened his eyes. It lay silent in its position near his pillow. He fought the urge to get up and get it; instead he glued himself on the chair and slid down a bit making himself comfortable. With another look at the sky, he took another sip.

As he took in more sips, the hot tea did its magic awakening his brains and his body from within. He was amazed because not only he felt much fresh and active early in the morning, but he was enjoying a cup of tea like he had never enjoyed it in those years. He had either rushed to gulp it down through his throat because he had to be at work or he had to return back home. Few times the tea would have turned cold as it sat idly waiting at his desk while he dug himself in some task and forgot the tea which was right in front of his eyes, only to realize later and gulp it down without even getting to taste it. The cold tea had never worked as magically as the hot tea was working now on his mind. He felt foolish as he remembered an incident where he had actually started enjoying the tea but later had given in to a TV program and lost the enjoyment of a real tea magic. But now he kept looking at the blue sky patched randomly with the curiously shaped silver clouds that looked like his childhood blue colored blanket stitched with patches of cartoon characters all over it. Though it felt childish, he did make out a shape of a cloud to be similar to an elephant without tail like he used to do during his childhood along with his friends.

Pursing in his lips, as he gulped down another hot sip, and looked around the room. He had everything in the room, a TV which stood proudly on a stand in front of the bed, his new mobile that lay beside his pillow and his iPad that lay on the same TV stand but none of them had been able to work the magic that the hot tea was doing now along with the fresh air and a childish look at the sky. The work that he had buried himself into, the same work that got him all the recognition he needed making him wealthy had also failed to get this feeling that he was feeling now. For a moment he thought why really he rushes to work so early and returns late itching for more work and more load; and if ever it was necessary and worth.

A numerous thoughts kept coming in but he fought against each one of them and sat comfortably with a firm decision of enjoying the cool morning with all the freshness and simple things that he was now feeling amazed of!  The simple and the sweet nature had won against all the gadgets that had surrounded him since years of which he was habituated! He now did felt his mind neither asking him to get up from the chair and take a look at the mobile for the messages or to scroll his FB page nor did it ask him to switch on the TV; it just told him, “It’s your life and it’s your day, just enjoy it!”

He didn’t even realize that he had finished the tea, enjoying it to its max, while he was calculating how busy and materialized his life had become that he had been missing all the small things, surprisingly available freely in nature, that in reality brought a happy smile on his face; instead keeping him occupied in the busy and boring world of yearning of an unknown dream and a mighty account while driving him remote from the sweet and simple world of nature that was filled with family, friends, and lots of fun and which was free!

Wishing you all dear readers a sweet and simple and safe autumn, a free gift from nature!

Group Studies!!

“Where the hell were you guys?” Santosh yelled at me as I entered his study room followed by Suthi.

“Traffic jam” I said grinning at him.

“What traffic jam in this town?” he asked.

“What question is that? There was traffic jam and we got stuck in it” Suthi snarled back at Santosh.

“That’s what I am asking you geniuses. What kind of traffic jam was there in this town and where was that, that got you both exactly half an hour late? Leave alone traffic jam, even if there was full traffic on the way to my home, you guys should have reached thirty minutes back” Santosh said, now a bit angrily to Suthi.

“Dude! So what? We got late now. Why are you getting angry for that?” I asked taking my seat on his bed.

“Rascals, in two days we have our Semester Exams and I am waiting for you guys sitting tensed here and you both come happily thirty minutes late and ask me why angry? I am tensed like hell!” Santosh said, still standing and looking at both of us who had already seated ourselves comfortably on his bed.

“Even we are tensed. That’s why we have come here to read. Now don’t waste time standing like that. Let’s start studying” Suthi said pushing a chair at him.

“Shut up. You came late and now are telling me not to waste time?” Santosh yelled at him.

“Okay. Calm down. We agree we came late. But you should have studied in that half hour. Who told you to sit here looking out of this window waiting for us as though we were your girlfriend?” I asked, spreading my legs making myself a bit more comfortable.

“Yes exactly. You could have utilized those precious 1800 seconds and studied more without our disturbance” Suthi said.

I wondered why and more importantly how in the hell he did that fast conversion of minutes to seconds and took a moment to check if his conversion was correct; surprisingly it was!

“Its waste arguing with you guys. I did study those thirty minutes and dint waste them” Santosh said.

“Then why are you moaning?” I asked.

“Who is moaning? I just asked why late? I wanted to know the reason that got you both late here else I have no complaints about you both coming late. It’s absolutely fine at whatever time you come”

“Then tell that you want to know where were we that got us a bit late here”

“That was my first question dude” Santosh replied and I could notice a hint of impatience in his tone.

“Both of you please stop talking. I am here to study not to while away my time” Suthi said.

“Yes, just forget what I asked. Let’s start studying” Santosh said, calmed down a bit.

I checked my watch and saw the time was already 7:45 PM. Quickly I opened one of the scariest books I had ever seen in my life – Signals and Systems. I could have sat the whole night all alone in a remote house full of spider webs and creepy noises and could complete a horror book with my heart skipping few beats at moments; but my heart stopped beating even in broad daylight amidst the whole town whenever I opened this text book.

“Man who invented this subject” I whined.

“Seriously dude, whatever page I am opening I see blank pages coz all the pages seem same to me and none of the word makes sense” Suthi said.

“I have been reading since noon and have completed only ten pages yet. That too has not made its way in my brain” Santosh continued.

“Okay as decided lets divide the chapters among ourselves and start studying seriously” Suthi said sitting straight.

“If we get that serious we would need ambulance” I said smiling.

“You and your disgusting PJ” Suthi hit back.

“What’s the abbreviation of PJ?” Santosh asked.

“Parallel Joke” I said.

“No it’s actually Pantophobia Joke” Suthi said.

“Now what the hell is Pantophobia? A phobia of pants?” Santosh asked.

Finally after a long discussion on PJs and Pantophobia; when we came to a conclusion that neither PJ meant what we had said nor Pantophobia meant fear of pants; it was already 8:20 PM. We decided to be serious and opened that dreadful book again and turned pages to get to the chapters we had decided to read.

“Dude, this is cheating. You both gave me the toughest chapter to read. I cannot read this. Not even a single line is getting into my head” Suthi yelled disgustingly as I saw the time and it was already 8:22 PM. Good God, he had atleast put his head down for two complete minutes.

“Just read whatever you want to read except for the chapter that we are reading” I said.

“But those two are the easiest ones” he said.

“Okay then you take mine. I will check some other chapter” Santosh said.

Again a pact was made and with the exchanged chapters we bent down our heads staring at the book, again.

I had hardly read the first page of the chapter that I was reading and had hardly understood three words of it when I felt my throat dry up and coughed. Looking up I checked for the water bottle beside the desktop and saw it was empty.

“Dude, please get me some water” I asked Santosh as I coughed few more times.

“I told you that Chat was already spicy but you insisted on getting more chat masala to be added” Suthi said.

“You guys had chat on the way? That’s what your traffic jam was! Shameless!” Santosh said.

“Yes that’s where we got late. Now what? Get me water quickly” I said.

“You could have called me also. I would have joined you both” Santosh said.

“It was not planned. We just saw it on our way and couldn’t control” I replied.

“Whatever. You both are traitors!” Santosh said and walked out of the room.

While he was out, Suthi got up from the bed and went over to the desktop and switched it on. It was on hibernate and once switched on completely, the NFS folder came up. Quickly clicking on it without waiting another second he started a game of NFS. He was just in his final lap when Santosh entered the room and looked at the desktop screen with his eyes wide open.

“Does he know that we have Signals and Systems exam in just 2 days?” Santosh said looking at me as I took the bottle of water from his hands.

“That’s what I told him but he says one game will refresh his mind and then he can concentrate” I said after gulping down some water quickly.

“It’s already 9 PM” Santosh said looking at the wall clock that hung right above the desktop.

“Oh man! We already wasted two hours” I said and slapped on the back of Suthi which hit him a little more hard than I had expected and in turn his fingers slipped from the keys and he almost lost the match that he was about to win.

“Rascal you spoiled my match” he said turning me.

“Haha if you lost don’t blame him” Santosh said taking the water bottle from hand and drinking water from it.

“I was about to win. Don’t challenge me” Suthi replied.

“Okay, now I am challenging you. Come on let’s play and check who wins” Santosh said.

“You guys don’t want to read?” I asked.

“You just keep quiet, you never won this game and are afraid of playing it” Suthi said.

“Yes, you can keep reading while we will play one-one game” Santosh added.

“What the hell! I will also play now and will see who wins” I said, folding the book and pushing it aside.

We started a NFS series with Suthi playing first followed by Santosh and then me. After a lot of hassle and confusion and cries and yells the NFS challenge completed.

“Now you agree you are not champ?” Santosh asked Suthi who was just giving out few excuses on why he couldn’t top among us.

Again finally, when we looked at the wall clock it was 9:40 PM.

“Its already time. Now what shall we do?” Suthi asked.

“What will we do? We can’t study everything in another twenty minutes. Let’s go home and study” I said.

“Yes right. We know we spend up the time like this when we meet for group studies but still we meet up” he said.

“Right, we never get serious” Santosh added.

“That’s good guys, because if we get serious we will have to call ambulance” I said with a grin.

“Stop your useless PJ” Suthi said as Santosh threw the pen he was holding at me.

The rest few minutes went in discussing about another PJ that was cracked few days back in college and then discussing about planning a film after the exams.

Again finally, when we were out of Santosh’s home ready to depart I looked at my watch; it was 10:15 PM and the group studies had ended…

Love Is Ageless…!

“Hmm, this is perfect!” I said to myself, taking the first sip of Café Mocha.

Sitting alone at the corner most table of the Starbucks store, I had waited a whole of two minutes to take a good look around the place before I tasted the first sip of my Mocha. I agreed with myself that it was my favorite seat, not because it allowed me a view of the complete store and also across the street outside but because that particular seat allowed me to lean back on the wall as comfortably as I wished. With the second sip, I switched on my laptop determined to finish off writing my next post for this blog.

Not before I had finished off half of the Mocha and had yet written not even two lines, I was already distracted. Rising my lips I took a deep breath. Lifting my head, I turned towards the street and then into the store. Though it was quite, there were seven more people in the store; a couple, two boys of my age busy with their laptops, a lady busy with her iPad, and the two store workers. Thinking of what could keep everyone in this world so busy and occupied; I turned back to the street. It was wonderful summer view out in the street.

Quickly turning back to my Laptop with an Idea, I deleted the lines I had typed and started with the topic – City in Summer. Again, not being satisfied with that, I took another sip and turned back to the street. As soon as I turned to the street, I saw an old couple walking towards the store from the opposite direction. By looking at them, I guessed their age to be anything between fifty and sixty but upon taking a closer look at their faces I added another five years to both of them. The way they had dressed, the way they had held each other’s hands and the way they walked; smiling, holding hands cozily, taking in the summer sun, enjoying the view on the street, taking matching steps; all this had clearly taken out five years from them and I was sure might have added a lot of happiness in their life.

As they reached the door of Starbucks, the husband pulled the door and held it open while the wife entered into the store with a broad smile on her face. She waited until the husband stepped into the store and joined her. They then again walked together to the counter.

Already distracted and with all the mood of writing drained out, my mind had somehow made up that it was being drawn towards the couple and had given up its effort in avoiding the force of that pull. Comforting myself in that chair, I followed the couple, directed by my mind. When they turned towards me, I saw, with a sideways look from the corner of my eyes, that they had taken two Coffees and two Brownies. I had to keep my head down until they turned away from me or sat down at some table. When I lifted my head again, after few minutes, I saw both of them sit opposite to each other at a table in front of me which was just beside the table where another couple seated.

Once seated, they looked at each other with all the love in this world and smiled. The wife had lifted her coffee cup but waited for the husband to take the first sip of coffee and all the while he was taking a sip from his cup, she kept looking at him affectionately. Then she took a sip and placed the cup back on the table. The husband had still held the coffee cup in his hands as they started talking to each other. Then the wife dug a spoon into the brownie and took a bite of it. All my attention was already drawn towards them and was locked and now I was immersed in looking at them. It was when the wife dug spoon again into the brownie and held out the spoon near the husband’s mouth for him to take the bite that I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand looking at the love and affection they had towards each other.

Blinking for the first time since I had watched them sip their coffees, I saw the wife smile broadly when the husband said something placing the cup back on the table. Suddenly the other couple who were seated very near to them turned towards the couple and smiled. They both wished the old couple unitedly with a louder tone, “Happy Anniversary” and clapped.

Then the lady with the iPad got up and wished the old couple taking a few steps towards them and all the other people followed this. It was when the younger couple looked at me I realized that I was still sitting at my chair with my eyes open at them. Blinking a few times and taking a deep breath I got up from my seat and walked to their seat and mumbled the two words of wishes for them. A small fear of being seen watching them was making its round inside my stomach making me feel awkward.

“So how many years did you both complete in each others’ arms?” the young wife asked.

“This is our fiftieth anniversary” the old husband said turning towards his wife who had a hint of blush on her face.

All those present in the store exclaimed and clapped while the old couple thanked everyone for the wishes.

“Fifty years together! That’s awesome!” the young wife said with her eyes wide open.

“Yes, this is our Golden jubilee” the old wife said.

After another round of exclamations and few more wishes and appreciations, the old husband turned towards all of us and said, “Fifty years back we both had met each other in a coffee shop back in our city and that was the moment when our eyes exchanged the first look and our hearts started beating together. There was no looking back since that day and the next month we were married!”

“From then until this day we celebrate our marriage anniversary in a coffee shop with coffees and brownies and every year it feels like the time turned all over again and we again exchanged that first glance and again our hearts started beating together and beating for each other” the wife said.

“And again we start the year all over again. The meetings, the adorations, and the vows” the husband continued.

“It is really great completing fifty years together! Fifty years of love! How strong could be the bond and the love. An achievement.” the other lady who was sitting with an iPad said.

“No, no, that’s not an achievement. It’s simply love and once love it’s always love. Because…” the old husband said and looked at his wife who continued, still keeping her smile, “Because Love is Ageless!

Wish you all dear readers a wonderful Sunday!

Girlfriend(s) once again !!!

Good Morning my dear SundayReaders!

What a lovely Sunday it is and what a beautiful morning it is. After a hard week that drains out every drop of sweat from our body and fills in every bit of tension into our brain, I think there should be some light humor to kick out all the week’s stress and help us have a relaxing Sunday!

And so, after a long series of spies and missions and actions, I decided to be back with the topic of my first post - another light humorous episode of Girlfriend(s)!

If you have read about the disappointing behavior, intolerable behavior, and weird behavior about girlfriend(s) in my previous three posts (links at the bottom of the post) on the same topic; then this post will show you and also prove another behavior which is the most uncontrollable behavior in girlfriend(s) – ANGER!

So my dear readers, here it goes…

That day was also a Sunday just like today. I still remember and will never forget that day in my life. I had woken up late without any hurry and without any tension of work, projects, meetings, managers and most importantly taking an early bath and getting to those irritating formals. The first thing I did when I woke up was to sleep again and I was successful; but only for few minutes. I had to open my eyes again in few minutes, neither because I dint get sleep nor because I had any work. I had to open my eyes because my mobile beeped alerting me of a message.

Opening my eyes, I unlocked my mobile and directly went into WhatsApp to check the message. It was from my girlfriend but once in, I found there were few other messages that had come overnight, one of which was a long message from one of my friends asking for some help. I could not control my curiosity and getting into his chat I started reading his message. By then, which was just half a minute, my mobile had beeped thrice. I quickly returned back to the main screen of WhatsApp and saw that all three of them were from her.

The first thing that I thought of on hearing those sudden three beeps was a bunch of morning wishes and kisses along with a morning hug and the day’s smug. With my smile growing wider, I opened my eyes fully and saw the last of the messages and it read ‘This is heights! I knw u r’ and it continued.

With some confusion adding up in my thoughts, I immediately clicked into the chat and read the messages –

Gud morning dr

And then after a gap of exactly half minute the three messages were –

Ohh look who has woken up so early.. u came online at my first message? Yipppieee..
Dr reply na if u r online.. why r u not replying..
This is heights! I knw u r busy reading other msgs and not even bothered to reply me.. I hate u..
I quickly replied back to her asking an apology and said not spoil her mood in morning. Then I typed in a second line saying how beautiful that morning was and how I woke up thinking about her and the first thing that I saw opening my eyes was her message. My third line went like this –
How lucky I m to hve u as my girlfriend dr J
But by then everything had gone out of control. The boundary had been crossed by me and the barrier of her patience was broken. All in just thirty damn seconds! She replied back –
First tell me whose msg u wr busy readin? And I dnt need ur sry..
Without wasting any second, which I knew was the only way of making up her mind and saving this Sunday, I replied back and then there was a long chat that went on.
It was a msg from my frnd dr.. he had sent me a msg asking for some help.. I cudnt control my curiosity on wht he needed from me..
Ok fine.. go and reply him.. why r u replying me now?
I said na I m sry dr.. I really wantd to reply u first but that word help made me curious..
Yeah yeah always frnds r first for u.. the first thing I do aftr opening my eyes is to msg u with so much of luv and u dnt even care fr my msgs..
I said na dr I m sry
I dnt need ur sry.. plz stop sayng tat..
Arey then why dnt u understand.. wat if he was in some urgency? I haven’t even yet replied back to him and I m chatting with u.. my first msg of the day is to u.. why dnt u consider that?
No no I never understand na.. I dnt need it.. its u who r always understanding.. tat day I just replied back 2 mins late and u scolded me.. wat about tday?
Arey yaar.. that day i was asking u to whr u had reachd and I was at the signal and cudnt wait in the middle of road on my bike waiting fr ur msg and u wr busy chatting with frnds..
Yes right.. u r always right.. u always prove it.. u never consider me and my situation..
Why r u nt understanding.. lets not fight for this silly reasn.. lets not spoil this lovely morning.. come on smile now J
Yes I always fight.. I m the one who always fights and spoils ur days.. its my mistake tat I get up every morning and msg u first and expect ur reply.. I dnt want to smile.. u smile.. I fight na.. u smile..
And thus my dear readers, the chatting continued without any break. Even after trying my best to calm her down, I was unsuccessful. The chat went on covering all the possible topics that helped grow the quarrel and finally breaking down my patience too and throwing me out of my Sunday mood. But my temper resulted only in her anger getting multiplied and in turn I had to multiply my apologies.
It was only after a long half hour that her anger suddenly disappeared and she started planning to watch a Bollywood movie that noon in the nearby mall. But, by the time the chatting stopped the screen of my mobile was about to shatter, my fingers were about to fall off and my brain was about to explode and I started thinking if the weekdays itself are better than weekends if this was the case.
I lifted my head up towards the fan thinking of asking the same question to God but heard a voice, before I could ask, “Son, first thing, I am not in that fan right now and I still do not have answer to your question. Second thing, please get up now and be at the mall on time, else I won’t be able to save you from your girlfriend!
